Anyone have a clue?  I have been reading on several non-bias sites about what is better, and almost all of them say Intel has the advantage overal, but AMD is still more cost effective, and energy efficient.

From what I have read, I would wait until AMD releases newer processors using the 45nm technology, although I heard that it probably won't be until the Q1/Q2 of 2009. Performance with their quad's has been very disappointing.

That being said, even though you may see differences in benchmarks and such, in the real world you are unlikely to notice the difference. It might take 3 seconds longer to unrar that 700 rar file, or it may drop 2fps in a game. I would just recommend going with the brand you know and trust. With that, I still know and trust AMD, so that is what I went with for my computer and I haven't been disappointed at all. My hope is when they go to the 45nm technology that they will keep the AM2+ socket, because then I can replace my X2 for a (hopefully) kick-@$$ phenom.

Everything I learned about computers, I learned from Jeremy and so I have to go with him and say AMD.

AMD's are a great way to go. Intel has some very impressive procs tho.  The way I look at it is this.  Every processor runs it's own little OS.  Ever done an update in windows and it has a driver for your processor?  Well the reason for this is because sometimes processors get released with an error in their code.  As long as your running windows you (for the most part) are OK.  For others it's not.  AMD has been very good about ensuring that their processors get released without these problems (like I said tho, most people don't notices these problems).  Intel's new Quad core has MANY errors in it's code (especially under 64-bit) and it causes a lot of instability.  For this reason I recommend AMD.  I don't see myself building an Intel comp any time soon even if it was only for gaming.

See I use the forum also... sometimes... ok, almost never...  ^_^

I don't know what the deal has been lately. I kinda stopped making major posts, because it seems no one read them (or at least replied to them). But then I have kinda dwindled my normal forum usage including other forums I used to frequent. One way that I keep track of this one, is I use the RSS feed in linux and it shows me when new posts are made. I just wish other forum software used this as well.
