So yeah... HD-DVD is pretty much a dead format now. Big surpirse Microsoft picked the loser. But anyway...

Wal-Mart, following Best Buy, Netflix, Target and others, decided on Friday, that they were going to stop selling HD-DVD products. Walmart is the largest retailer of DVD's, probably followed close by Best Buy. So with these two big players out of the market, Toshiba doesn't have much of a chance anymore. Also Warner Brothers Studio decided to switch from HD-DVD to Blu-Ray.

The word is that Toshiba plans to keep selling current models, but does not plan to come out with any new ones.

Now prices just need to drop a little more, then I will add a Blu-Ray burner to my computer. They are a measly $350 for the cheap one on newegg. But I could pick up just a player for $170. But I might consider getting this when I decide to finally get rid of my DVD-ROM/CD-RW drive. The beige color really doesn't go well with my case.

Oh and here are the articles about HD-DVD dying...

HooRay, that means the price on Blu-Ray will come down enough to 'consider' getting one.

I just got back to work after being sick all weekend (my first saturday off in over a month and I got the damn flu (damn vaccine didn't work!)) and we were informed that as of TODAY Toshiba has stopped manufacturing HD-DVD players, period.  So once they are gone they are gone forever!  I for one am happy about this.  In previous topics I mentioned about the quality difference between HD-DVD, Blu-Ray and standard DVD with the Transformers movie, well I just got the change to test another HD-DVD vs DVD. U-571.  This movie on DVD has DTS sound and on the HD-DVD has HD-DTS (what extras you get with HD-DTS I do not know) but we were unable to hear a difference between the HD-DVD and DVD versions of the movie.  And only a hand-full of people claimed to be able to see a better picture with the HD-DVD, everyone else said it looks the same.  So there you have it.  ^_^
