According to this article, Microsoft is cutting the price to the Xbox HD-DVD drive from $170 to $120. Supposedly it comes with King Kong in HD-DVD as well. Also I guess there is a promotion for getting 5 free HD-DVD's when you buy this.

Because of the strict browsing policies at work I cannot check out the links in that article, but according to the article, they think this is a last ditch effort to sell the HD-DVD drive, because supposedly Blu-Ray is going to win the format war.

At that price I might even consider buying one as long as I get to choose the 5 free movies. Even if it is the only 5 movies I get in HD-DVD, it might be worth it. But it will be a while until I do it anyway because I just spent too much money on the parts for my new computer.

Right now at R Wii Silley you can get a Toshiba a-3 (1080i) player for $150 (or the a-30 1080p for $200) and it comes with 300 and The Bourne Identity.  It seems that HD-DVD has lost a major movie studio. WB!  So the only ones left are Universal and Paramount, and Paramount just released Transformers on Blu-Ray!  This to me seems like a last big effort to get HD-DVD out there, and we just dropped the prices on most HD-DVDs down to as low as $9.99!!!

Oh and speaking of Transformers, we did a test where we played Transformers on a Toshiba A-30 HD-DVD player and it was very grainy. We then put a DVD in the player and it actually looked better! Then on the same TVs (Mitsubishi) we put a Samsung Blu-Ray player in a player Transformers on it and it looked Awesome!!!  Blu-Ray is truly the superior format! Oh, and everything was hooked up with Monster brand HDMI 700 cable.

The next time we can get the Transformers Blu-Ray in (it's an employee's copy) We are going to test the quality again on our new Samsung Hybrid Player on some very nice Samsung (50+ inch!) TVs. It can play both HD-DVD and Blu-Ray formats!

Nice... yeah, as me and you always said, HD-DVD was a really poor idea. Well it wasn't bad, but compared to Blu-Ray it didn't hold a candle. It is good to see that the acronym thing didn't pan out. I am still waiting for the HD-DVDBDBVBDBVD... Grin
